ILAX has the training resources necessary to become a certified youth lacrosse official!
Lacrosse is growing rapidly in Iowa and we need new officials for both the boys and girls games.
Lacrosse in Iowa: More than 700 boys and girls played lacrosse in Iowa in spring 2024 and the sport ranks as one of the fastest growing in the nation! With growth comes the need for more officials to work a growing game schedule. We support youth and high school play across Iowa, with teams located in the Ames-Ankeny-Des Moines region, Tama/Meskwaki, Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Dubuque, and the Quad Cities.
Season and Payment: The principal season is spring. Play begins in late March and concludes the first weekend in June. Games are scheduled on weeknights and the weekends. We support 10U, 12U, 14U and High School play. Ideally, there are 2 officials scheduled for every game and each official is paid ($55/ youth game, $100/ HS varsity and $80/ JV game). If traveling outside your home region, a travel stipend also is provided.
Payment are made electronically 2-3 days following the games.
USA Lacrosse membership for new officials will be reimbursed for the first year.
Training is a mix of on-line classes, a rules exam, and on-field evaluations.
Officials new to lacrosse start off as a Level 1 official and they must complete all the requirements listed below in order to receive their certification to officiate lacrosse games. Learn how to access required elements via the E-Learning overview page.

For referees in other sports, you already have all the tools to succeed! Understanding how to work as a team, communicate with players and coaches, and positioning yourself on a field/court are key fundaments that you already have. We can TEACH you all you need to know about lacrosse!
For former players, you know the game - we can TEACH you how to be an official, allowing you to stay involved in the game you love while balancing work/life commitments.
